Letter of Recommendation, Lynda Gragg

January 6, 2018
To Whom It May Concern:

Please accept this as a letter of personal recommendation for Holly Faulk.  I have known Holly for over twenty-five years, both as her friend and former teacher.  Holly is hard-working, honest, and has a keen eye for detail.  She has worked in many fields, but she has exceptional talent for all things horticultural. Holly truly shines when working with plants, flowers, and earth.  Additionally, she is an exceptional server/waitress who goes the extra mile to make customers happy and to keep them returning to the place she works.
Holly is bright and learns quickly, and she is highly motivated to do well.  She is very capable and quick to figure out what is required of her, and then excel at her given tasks.  While she gets along well with others and can be an asset to any work team, she is very easily able to work well independently too.
Holly would be a wonderful addition to any place of employment, and I would highly recommend her for any position she might choose.  If you would like to speak to me about Holly, or about this recommendation, please email me at:  lyndagragg@gmail.com.
Thank you,

Lynda D. Gragg

Individuality

"He remembered that she was pretty, and, more, that she had a special grace in the intimacy of life. She had the secret of individuality which excites--and escapes."

Believe only if....

“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”
― Gautama Buddha

Little Fly

Little Fly by William Blake

Oh Little Fly thy summers play,
My thoughtless hand has brushed away,
Am I not a Fly like thee,
Or are not thou a man like ME?
For I dance and drink and sing,
Till some blind hand shall brush My wing,

If thought is life and strength, and breath,
And the want of thought is death,
Then am i not a happy Fly
If I live or if I die?

When My Mind Is Still

“When My Mind is Still” by Paul Beattie

“When my mind is still and alone with the beating of my heart,
I remember things too easily forgotten:
The purity of early love,
The maturity of unselfish love that asks -
desires - nothing but another's good,
The idealism that has persisted through all the tempest of life.

When my mind is still and alone with the beating of my heart,
I can find a quiet assurance, an inner peace, in the core of my being.
It can face the doubt, the loneliness, the anxiety,
Can accept these harsh realities and can even grow
Because of these challenges to my essential being.

When my mind is still and alone with the beating of my heart,
I can sense my basic humanity,
And then I know that all men and women are my brothers and sisters.
Nothing but my own fear and distrust can separate me from the love of friends.
If I can trust others, accept them, enjoy them,
Then my life shall surely be richer and more full.
If I can accept others, this will help them to be more truly themselves,
And they will be more able to accept me.

When my mind is still and alone with the beating of my heart,
I know how much life has given me:
The history of the race, friends and family,
The opportunity to work, the chance to build myself.
Then wells within me the urge to live more abundantly,
With greater trust and joy,
With more profound seriousness and earnest service,
And yet more calmly at the heart of life.”

If.... by Rudyard Kipling

If.... by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream — and not make dreams your master;
If you can think — and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings — nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And which is more; you'll be a Man, my son!

-Rudyard Kipling

Desiderata

Desiderata by Max Ehrmann

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

...deep down to her soul.

“She was beautiful, but not like those girls in the magazines. She was beautiful, for the way she thought. She was beautiful, for the sparkle in her eyes when she talked about something she loved. She was beautiful, for her ability to make other people smile, even if she was sad. No, she wasn't beautiful for something as temporary as her looks. She was beautiful, deep down to her soul. She is beautiful.”
― F. Scott Fitzgerald

We really have control over very little....

"We really have control over very little when it comes to life, the only thing we really get to control is our state of mind...and that in turn controls what the Universe says Yes to. It's the concept that all "God" or the universe knows is how to say yes, we control what the thoughts and wishes are that it says yes to."

I HAVE PERMISSION TO BE EXACTLY WHO I AM!

I have permission to be exactly who I am. I have a right to feel what I feel and to believe what I believe in the vision I see. It is okay to think what I think, to dream what I dream, to love everything I love. I never, ever have to deny my true self or pretend to be something I'm not. I am worthy of love and respect. I trust my heart. I take pride in the integrity of my spirit. I believe in what is true to me. I am free. I am uniquely beautiful me.

About Holly.... by Kayla Lucas

A friend shared the following about me recently, and I love it. Am honored to be viewed as such:

"Oh holly, what to say. Do you know how charmingly eccentric you are? I've said recently, Holly is the archetype of a successful single lady. An insatiable curiousity for life. She needn't have a man on her arm, or a woman, nor travel far, you are just content with where you are and truly appreciate the ALL that is within your reach, if one just grabs it! Girl, you're fire, always running, flying, jumping, rhyming, and ...every once in a great while, when you come around, jaws drop and people ask themselves in wonderment "what the fuck just happened?"

Letter of Recommendation, Melissa Pfaff

***I WAS OFFERED MY FIRST SALARY JOB AT THE AGE OF 21 BEFORE I EVER FINISHED MY DEGREE IN HORTICULTURE. I DID NOT APPLY FOR THIS JOB. IN SHORTEST DETAIL, I HAD APPLIED FOR AND BEEN GIVEN THE POSITION OF A FRONT END SUPERVISOR IN A NEWLY OPENED EUROPEAN STYLE DELI, BAKERY, PATISSERIE AND  CAFE BISTRO CALLED THE BAKEHOUSE IN DOWNTOWN BLOOMINGTON, in, WHICH WAS A RATHER LARGE 'RESAURANT' EMPLOYING PROBABLY 60 PPL OR SO IF NOT MORE. IN THAT POSITION, EVEN AS A SUPERVISOR, I WAS PROCEEDED BY THE GENERAL MANAGER AND FRONT OF HOUSE MANAGER ESSENTIALLY BUT  ALSO ANSWERED TO THE EXECUTIVE CHEF, PASTRY CHEF AND BAKER IN CONCERN OF ANY MATTER RELEVANT TO OR EFFECTED BY THEIR SPECIFIC SECTION OF THE ESTABLISHMENT (AS TO GIVE AN IDEA HOW BIG OF AN OPERATION THIS WAS).

THIS JOB WAS THE FIRST JOB I TOOK AFTER MY FIRST VISIT TO FRANCE AT THE AGE OF 19 (FULLY FUNDED BY ME).  I STAYED THE MAXIMUM ALLOTED TIME ALLOWED TO ME AS A TOURIST, WHICH THE WAS THREE MONTHS ON A TOURIST VISA.

LONG STORY SHORT AND TO GET BACK TO THE POINT,, THE OWNERS OF THIS ESTABLISHMENT ALSO OWENED THE PROPERTY MNGMNT/REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT COMPANY ABODES, WHERE I WAS APPROACHED BY THEM TO DO SOME PT GARDENING SHORTLY AFTER GROUND WAS BROKE ON A 40 ACRE/285 UNIT APARTMENT COMMUNITY. THE OWNER HAD HEARD I TOOK AN INTEREST IN GARDENING AND WAS HOPING TO EVENTUALLY EARN A DEGREE IN HORTICULTURE AS I WAS SURE I HAD FOUND MY CALLING. TO SUMMARIZE, AFTER A WEEK OR SO WORKING PT, I WAS OFFERED THE OPPURTUNITY TO LEAVE THE POSITION AT THE BAKEHOUSE WITH NO REPRECUSSIONS, IF IT WAS MY DESIRE TO WORK FT GARDENING AND LANDSCAPING ON THIS NEW PROPERTY THAT WAS GROWING DAY BY DAY IN EVERY ASPECT. AND I CHOSE TO WORK ENTIRELY IN THE FIELD I ENJOYED MOST. IT WASN'T EVEN A MONTH LATER THAT I WAS OFFERED A SALARY JOB WITH HEATLTH BENEFITS AND PAID VACATION, WHICH CAME AS A COMPLETE SURPRISE TO ME BUT SEALED THE DEAL CONCERNING MY WORK ETHIC AND HOW VALUABLE OF AN EMPLOYEE I WAS AND HOW MUCH CONFIDENCE WAS WILLING TO BE INVESTED IN ME. THIS JOB LASTED FIVE YEARS AND ENDED DUE TO NO FAULT OF MY OWN BUT DUE THE TRAGIC AND UNFORSEEN LOSS OF THE PRESIDENT OF HTE COMPANY WHO WAS A MENTOR AND KIND OF A 'FATHER' TO ALL OF HIS MANAGERS INCLUDING I. AFTER HIS DEATH, THE FAMILY CHOSE TO SELL OF A GREAT DEAL OF THEIR PROPERTIES, WHICH MEANT THEIR LABOR FORCE WAS DECREASED SIGNIFIGANTLY. IT WAS UNDERSTANDABLE AS MICHAEL POLLACK, THE PRESIDENT, WAS THE GUIDING FORCE THAT KEPT EVERYTHING AND ALL OF US IN ORDER. SO SAD. I WOULD SAY MICHAEL POLLACK IS ONE OF TWO PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THE GREATEST INFLUENCE ON MY LIFE AS A WHOLE NOT INCLUDING FAMILY.

Subject: Letter of Recommendation for Ms. Holly Faulk

To Whom It May Concern:

Holly worked under my supervision as our Horticulturist and Landscape Manager from May of 1997 until November 2001. Her responsibilities included managing both installation and maintenance of lawns, trees, shrubs, wildflower gardens, and perennial gardens on all of Abodes properties.  Holly was also responsible for overseeing maintenance of two ponds and two swimming pools.  In addition to ordering materials, she supervised a staff of full and part-time employees. She was required to hire and train all of the landscaping staff and assist in the budget process for the landscaping division.  During the course of her employment, Holly proved to be a hard working individual, who consistently paid much attention to detail. An especially challenging aspect of the position she held was  dealing with the ongoing transition prevalent during construction and renovation of large commercial properties like ours; Holly exceeded the expectations initially assigned to her, her performance reviews were repeatedly above average, and her drive to be the best was unrelenting.

I was quite impressed by Holly's ability to complete all duties assigned to her within scheduled time-frames. . Her work was always performed in a very methodical and logical manner- and her intense interest in the field, combined with a high level of initiative, proved her a prized employee from the beginning of her employment  The talent she displayed in her work on The Fields Development Project (six phases totaling 40 acres) was instrumental in our winning two Prodigy Awards for the state of Indiana, the 1st in 1998 and the 2nd in 2001, for “Best Landscaping.”  Holly produced high quality work with efficiency always in mind.
Overall, Holly is a very independant and organized individual, who is both enthusiastic and devoted to her work . I certainly believe she has what it takes to pursue her interests in the horticulture industry.  I recommend Holly for any opportunity where she can demonstrate her creative capacity and utilize her broad knowledge of and passion for Horticulture.

Melissa Murphy

Letter of Recommendation, Flynn Picardal (picardal@gmail.com)

December 3, 2015
To Whom It May Concern,
This is a letter of recommendation for Holly Faulk whose services as a gardener and
landscaper I have used on several occasions since the summer of 2012. To put it simply, Ms.
Faulk is the best gardener and landscaper that I have employed since I obtained my house in
1998.
Her work is characterized by an enthusiastic approach and her obvious love of plants and
landscape design. She has extensive experience in the field and is also very knowledgeable
about local plants and which ones are suited for a particular location. While working, she seems
to have an inexhaustible energy supply and I have sometimes enjoyed watching her work,
amazed that she works constantly with very few pauses. She appears to get twice as much work
done in half the time that other gardeners need.
In addition to the amount of work that she does in a short period of time, I have also been
extremely pleased with the quality of her work. Whereas some gardeners are effective in
removing the above ground portion of weeds, she takes extra steps to do the job right and remove
below-ground plant matter and roots which would otherwise grow back in a short period of time.
In summary, I can personally recommend no one more highly than Ms. Faulk for
gardening and landscape work. I will continue to use her services whenever possible.
Best regards,
Flynn Picardal
